Here are our belonging opportunities.

Let us help you find your place within the Maranatha Chapel family. As your first step, consider joining our three-week class called ‘Next Steps’. This class starts on the first Sunday of each month at 10:30 am in Jacob’s Well—no registration required. During this course, we’ll explore opportunities for belonging and guide you toward your next steps. Here are some of the opportunities available:

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

  • The Children’s Ministry impacts the lives of over 600 Maranatha kids each week with the love of Jesus. Dream Team members always serve with other team members to:

    • Lead Sunday school lessons

    • Assist with crafts

    • Engage with kids in worship time

    • Help kids memorize verses

    • Distribute snacks and participate in games

    Some team members are up in front of the classes, and others orchestrate the background tasks to accomplish an excellent church experience for each child who comes.

AWANA

  • Awana Members impact kid's lives through this special Sunday night club for kids ages 3 to 18. Each age group has specialized programs that need leadership and support from awesome adults. The focus of this club is memorizing Scripture, making friends through small groups, being mentored and taught God's Word while having fun! Awanas is on Sunday nights during the school year.

BAPTISM

  • The Baptism helps execute the church’s summer baptism by setting up grills and coolers at La Jolla shores, preparing food, and cleaning up. Baptisms happen once a month during the summer.

GREETERS

  • The Greeter team is comprised of approachable, friendly people who welcome churchgoers and answer questions for those who may be new. This team is an excellent opportunity for those with the gift of hospitality. Welcome the congregation into our church “home” with a warm “Hi!” during any of the weekly services.

PARKING GREETERS

  • The Parking Lot team greets people immediately as they arrive on the church campus. Many people who are attending for the first time have questions about where to go. This team acts as the first point of contact for those coming to weekend services.

USHERS

  • The Ushers welcomes people as they enter the sanctuary. By handing attendees a bulletin, helping them find a seat, or answering questions, ushers serve the church at any of the weekly services.

PRAYER

  • The Prayer team serves the church by praying either before services, during the week, or after service with church members in the sanctuary. This is an excellent opportunity for those with the gift of prayer and intercession.

ONLINE WELCOME

  • Online Welcome helps minister to those who are signing on to online church services. Those who are watching can click the option to share a prayer request or ask a question, and the online welcome team responds. You can participate in this ministry from the comfort of your home computer.

GROWTH GROUP LEADERS

  • The Growth Group Team has many members who serve in a variety of ways to make Growth Groups a fantastic place for people to get plugged in at Maranatha. While some members lead groups, others support leaders by hosting, bringing food, or leading worship. Groups meet all nights of the week in homes around the community.

MEN’S MINISTRIES

  • The Men’s Ministry Team contributes to the Men’s Tuesday Night Study by leading table discussions, setting up or tearing down, and helping with special meals and events.

  • The One to One Men’s Ministry exists to encourage and lead men in spiritual growth and the transformation of the inner man. This ministry takes place in small groups and one-on-one discipleship.

  • The Handyman Team uses their practical skills to come alongside those who need help with household projects. Handymen usually serve in teams to help families in need with home projects.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

  • The Women’s Tuesday Bible Study Team helps with a variety of tasks that help the study run smoothly. This may include assisting with events, hosting services, preparing coffee, and much more.

MONDAY NIGHT STUDY

  • The Monday Night Team ministers to those who come to the study by ushering, praying with attendees, setting up coffee, serving meals, and leading worship. This group meets weekly in the Maranatha Bookstore.

YOUNG ADULTS

  • The Young Adult Team leaders encourage young adults in their walk with God. They attend the Thursday night gathering in the bookstore, lead small groups in their homes, or assist with special events and trips. There are also many opportunities to mentor a young person.

FACILITIES & JANITORIAL

  • The Facilities Team shares their gardening and landscaping skills or their cleaning skills to make sure the church is a welcoming and beautiful facility.

HIGH SCHOOL

  • The High School Ministry Team engages with High School students in a variety of ways to encourage them in their faith. Leaders can attend Sunday morning services where they welcome and interact with students, or they can attend Tuesday night youth group to lead discussions, co-lead small groups, and have fun building mentoring relationships.

JR HIGH

  • The Junior High Ministry Team engages with Middle School students in a variety of ways to encourage them in their faith. Leaders can either attend Sunday morning services where they welcome and interact with students, or they can attend Wednesday night youth group where they play games, co-lead small groups, and have fun building mentoring relationships.

WORSHIP MINISTRY

  • The Worship Team provides opportunities for those gifted singers and instrumentalists whose desire is to serve the Lord through music. These team members serve during services and also in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and adult groups throughout the week.

 

PRODUCTION

  • The Production Team supports our weekly church services by service planning, stage set-up, and lighting. These team members serve during all of our services. 

  • The Video Production Service Team operates cameras during services, films and produces the weekly video announcements, conducts interviews, sets up lighting and other equipment, and much more. 

  • The Sound Team works with the sound technicians to conduct sound checks, mix the audio, and ensure that services and events run smoothly. 

  • The Graphics Team supports ministries around the church by creating flyers and graphics for events, trips, and for online use.

CARE MINISTRIES

  • The Divorce Care Team facilitates and hosts a weekly gathering for those who have recently been affected by divorce. The group goes through a video series and study guide together.

  • The Marriage Mentoring Team focuses on building strong marriages at Maranatha. This involves pre-marital or marriage-mentoring with couples who want to grow or are experiencing difficulty.

  • The Divine Quilts Team gathers twice a month to make quilts for baby dedications and other sewing needs. This group meets on two Thursday evenings every month in the foyer.

  • The Heart’s for Helen Widows Ministry is for women who have lost their husbands. They receive monthly encouragement through fellowship, prayer, and sharing a meal. This group meets the first Monday of each month at 10:30 am in F-107. They also have several other options for ministering to the women in this group.

  • The Grief Share Ministry is for anyone who has suffered loss or lost someone close to them. This group meets Sundays during second service and goes through the Grief Share curriculum.

OUTREACH & MISSIONS

  • The Refugee Ministry Team partners with refugee families living here in San Diego. The team goes in groups to do home visits, help families with administrative tasks like reading mail, and they share meals. There are also a few special events each year to bless this group, and many hands are always needed to make it a success.

  • The Reach Out Jail & Prison Ministry Team interacts with those in incarceration. Through letters, visits, and special outreaches and events, this team brings encouragement, hope, and the good news into prisons.

  • Operation Christmas Child is a seasonal ministry that assembles and distributes shoe-boxes and transports them to distribution centers so that they can be sent out all over the world.

  • The Sunshine Nursing Home Team leads church services at local nursing homes for those who can’t make it to our regular services.

NEW BELIEVERS

  • The New Believers Team Members follow-up with people who come down to the front of the sanctuary to receive Jesus. They distribute Bibles, discipleship books, and contact cards as well as offer to pray with people. This team serves during special services, holidays, and evangelistic events.

  • The Event’s Team executes large events and services that take place at Maranatha Chapel throughout the year.

  • The Front Desk Team answer incoming calls, answer questions or route calls to pastors, as well as greet incoming guests.

  • The Hospitality Team brings a warm smile on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights to those who come for donuts, coffee, and meals.
