Our Vision & Mission

LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE

The Great Commandment:
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:30-31

MAKE DISCIPLES

The Great Commission:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…” Matthew 28:19-20. Disciples are people who experience the Great Commandment, loving God with all their beings, in a passionate, intimate relationship, and who extend that love to others. Disciples are people who live the Great Commission, teaching and leading others into such a relationship with the Lord, that they too experience the Great Commandment. From the Great Commandment, comes the Great Commission. The result of the Great Commission is the Great Commandment.

Our History

Maranatha Chapel is a non-denominational evangelical Christian church, in fellowship with Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. This informal association includes the sharing of philosophical and spiritual values and the participation by our pastors in intra-church conferences. Founded in August 1984, Pastor Ray Bentley started teaching a midweek Bible study in a recreation center, with 30 people. After three months, the fellowship outgrew the center and began Sunday morning services at a local junior high school. The new church continued to grow; by the end of 1986, while still meeting in the school, over 1100 people were attending, necessitating three morning services plus an evening service.

On March 17, 1990, Maranatha Chapel dedicated its first facility, on 4.5 acres in San Diego’s north county community of Rancho Peñasquitos. The church held three Sunday morning services and added a “Sunday morning” service on Saturday nights to make more room for growth. The attendance soon grew to over 3000.

By the summer of 1996, Maranatha broke ground at our current facility on 15 acres in Rancho Bernardo. The building was completed in the fall of 1997, dedicating a new 3000 seat sanctuary, new Sunday School buildings, and a 3000 square foot bookstore and cafe. Maranatha Christian Schools, grades K-12, is located on a beautiful 17.5-acre site approximately two miles west of Maranatha Chapel on Maranatha Way off of Camino Del Sur.

Maranatha Chapel currently serves nearly 7000 people, offering through-the-Bible life application teaching. Archived services from Pastor Daniel’s messages are available on our Maranatha Youtube Channel. Maranatha’s publishing arm, Maranatha Media, produces a variety of printed, audio, and video resources for study.

FAQs

What does a typical service look like?

All of our services have a casual atmosphere.

A typical Sunday morning service begins with worship followed by announcements to keep us updated on what’s happening around the church. We then open our Bibles with Pastor Daniel Bentley as he leads us in a study.

Wednesday Night is led by Pastor Danny Ramos. We begin with worship before they take us into the Word.

Can I bring my baby in the sanctuary?

We have two options for parents with babies. First, we offer a nursing mothers room with a one way window into the sanctuary and direct audio. Second, families can sit together in the sanctuary or in the foyer where we have sound and video on large screens.

Do I need a Bible?

It is suggested that you bring a Bible. During our studies, we read chapter by chapter, verse by verse.
Bibles are available for sale in our bookstore. If you need help getting a Bible, please talk with one of our pastors and they will be more than happy to help.

Where do I go for help once I get there?

Throughout the campus you will find signs that say “Just Ask” so please do.
You can also stop by our bookstore to ask any questions.
