What is the Shield of Goshen and why is Pastor Ray calling for 365 Days of prayer and fasting?

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?"    Isaiah 58:6  (NIV)

In the above passage, Isaiah provides what was to become the job description of the church. This was Christ's mission and He has passed that mission along to us. After forty days of fasting in the wilderness, what was the first message Jesus gave to His home town of Nazareth? In Luke 4:13-21, our Lord quoted from Isaiah 61:1-2 saying: "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD…"

Maranatha Chapel asks you to pray and fast, that this challenge to preach, heal and deliver would be lived out in the ministry of Pastor Ray, the other pastors and staff, the various ministries of Maranatha Chapel, and you, the congregation. True God-led ministry involves spiritual warfare and in warfare you need defensive and offensive weapons. Because of the certainty of spiritual attack, Pastor Ray has called this special year of prayer and fasting "The Shield of Goshen."  In Exodus 8:22-23 God speaks of how He puts a shield of protection around His unique people. Will you pray and fast for us and with us, that God would protect us with His shield and that we would be a special people, set apart to serve Him?
